Okay! Isaac, Baba (Johnson’s grandfather) and I went to look at secondary schools the other day and it was great. We saw three different ones and they were all so good. The last one we saw was the best, amazing structure, really nice facilities, great options for cirriculum, and an 8 week english focus program for new students with not-as-good english (like Johnson). It is a school run by Australians and everything is taught in english. We sat in on the History, Biology and Music class and they were all very good. The students were so engaged and the teachers used different methods of teaching and they seem to have a really good relationship with the students. There is a big library and the campus really is beautiful. I asked Baba what he thought but he simply said he just wants Johnson to continue with school, and where he goes is up to me (if we can fund it) but he just doesn’t want Johnson to be at home and end up cleaning windows on the street (which is basically what the future here looks like if the kids can’t go to school). Of course the best school is the most expensive though, we broke down all the costs and divided it up to see the monthly price which would be $80/month because of the boarding fees. It’s very expensive and we have one more school to look at next week so maybe that will be just as good and a bit less, who knows. We will see and get it figured out. I’m glad to know how great the schools are overall here though, I would feel confident sending Johnson to any of the schools we looked at.
More good news, a generous donor (thank you Freeda!) has donated enough money to get Shedrack a bed! I can’t wait to get it and take it to them, they’re going to be so excited, they won’t know what to do with themselves. It’s going to be so great!!
Also, I’m going next week to look at a school here that was started by a previous volunteer so we can have some ideas about how to go about this whole building a school thing :) Pip is back (YAY!!!) so she will be coming to Hill Crest next week and we will really get to work. I’m SO excited to be working with her, she’s the best. And surprised me for my birthday, she said she wasn’t going to be back in Arusha until Friday afternoon but then she showed up at Via on Thursday night when we celebrated. It was the best, I screamed and probably looked like a 2 year old when I turned around and she was standing behind me. So fun! It was a great birthday, everyone here made it amazing. I’m so blessed to have such great friends and family at home, and then travel around the world by myself only to find so many more amazing friends. This next month is going to be the best of them all, I can just feel it!
